Do you want to treat your employees to celebrate their hard work? Would you like to strengthen your team and increase company morale? A corporate retreat is a great way to show your appreciation while simultaneously helping your team get to know each other better outside the workplace and strengthening company culture.

You can rent a conference space or reserve a room block for your guests a couple of towns over, but why not kick it up a notch? With a company retreat in Costa Rica, you are assured of an incredible experience that your team will be talking about for years to come.

Bringing your team to Costa Rica may not have been your first thought, but it actually makes a lot of sense—here are 6 reasons why.

1. easy travel

Costa Rica is located in Central America, connecting North and South America. The country has two airports that receive international flights. There is the Juan Santamaria International Airport in Alajuela (SJO) and the International Airport Daniel Oduber in Liberia, Guanacaste (LIR.) The direct flight from Miami (MIA) to SJO takes a little under three hours. When traveling to Costa Rica, your team won’t have to worry about multiple days of flying or jetlags, as Costa Rica is in the same or similar time zone as the U.S.

2. easy access

During the pandemic, international travel became a challenge. Even now, some countries continue to require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test for entry. Traveling to Costa Rica is a breeze. As of April 2022, Costa Rica has lifted the vaccine mandate and health pass requirements. To enter Costa Rica, you only need a return ticket to prove you won’t stay longer than 90 days. When not everyone in your travel party is (fully) vaccinated, you are still able to travel to Costa Rica together.

3. safe destination

There is no disputing that some countries in South America are safer to travel to than others. Fortunately, Costa Rica is considered one of the safest countries to travel to. In 2022, Costa Rica remained the most peaceful country in the region, according to the Global Peace Index update. Traveling to and around the country is considered safe, Costa Rican people usually are very friendly with tourists and excited to share their country's food and culture with those visiting. Your team will have a safe, comfortable, and fun experience in Costa Rica.

4. bilingual population

Although the official language in Costa Rica is Spanish, English is widely spoken. Especially in hotels, restaurants, and stores located in tourist destinations, you will have no trouble communicating in English. Knowing a few Spanish words or expressions can help make communication easier. ‘Pura vida’ is an expression that you will come across on a regular basis, it literally translates to ‘pure life’ but it is commonly used as a greeting, a goodbye, and as a synonym for ‘excellent.’

5. something for everyone

Costa Rica might be a small country, measuring 19,700 square miles or 51,100 square kilometers, but it's packed with sights and activities to keep you busy. Many visitors come for nature and wildlife, but the country has a lot more to offer. Beaches, mountains, volcanoes, hot springs, rainforests, cloud forests—Costa Rica has it all. Whether you take your team to a coffee tour, a chocolate workshop, or a yoga class, or opt for something more adventurous like hiking, white water rafting, or ziplining, your team is bound to have an unforgettable time.

6. warm temperatures

With average temperatures that range from 72°F (22°C) to 82°F (28°C), there is rarely a bad time to organize your corporate retreat in Costa Rica. Costa Rica has a rainy season from May-November, but even then you can expect bright and sunny mornings as it mostly rains in the afternoons. For the majority of the year, the skies are blue and the sun is shining, and nature is remarkable year-round. Warm temperatures and an endless amount of fun-filled activities make Costa Rica a prime destination for team-building events and company outings.
