Ventilate rooms before cleaning
Fresh air is circulated throughout the cleaning process and windows are left open if possible for arrival of guests.

The housekeeper will wash their hands thoroughly before, after and several times during cleaning.
The housekeepers are required to use soap and water for at least 20 seconds when washing their hands. Paper Towels, Disinfecting wipes and other disposable cleaning supplies

Paper towels, disinfecting wipes, when available, are used by the housekeepers and provided for the guests to use.
Reusable cleaning supplies are washed and dried on the highest possible setting.

Clean, then disinfect
Surfaces are cleaned with soap and water to remove dirt, germs and impurities. Then these surfaces are disinfected with bleach or alcohol to kill germs. Cleaning and disinfecting is the best way to reduce
the spread of infection.

Using the right disinfectant
Diluted household bleach solutions, cleaning products with at least 70% alcohol and most common disinfectants registered by the Environmental Protection Agency are believed to be effective against the coronavirus. Bleach and alcohol are readily available in Costa Rica and used in VCV. When available Lysol is used.

Focus on frequently touched surfaces.
Light switches, doorknobs, remote controls, and faucet handles are just a few of the areas disinfected daily. (Check out our list of frequently touched surfaces below.)

Upholstery and porous surfaces.
Villa Costa Vida does not have any rugs or drapes. All sofas have covers that are cleaned in between guests. There are solar shades in all bedrooms and the pull is cleaned and disinfected in between guests.

All linens are washed at the highest heat setting recommended by the manufacturer.
That includes bed sheets, mattress covers, hand and bath towels, kitchen towels, quilts and blankets. Housekeepers wash their hands after handling dirty linens. Mattress covers are cleaned in between guests.

Clean and disinfect laundry baskets and hampers.
A liner is provided for all hampers and is cleaned before guests arrive and once per week when laundry is done while guests are staying at the Villa.

Cleaning of Appliances
The housekeepers use a shop vac or vacuum to clean corners and under cabinets and furniture. The shop vac is emptied after every use. The dishwasher and washing machines are also disinfected before guests arrive.
